Lite-ON IT granted the United States Patent No. 8,424,027 about the unique technology “Non-Plunger Latch” on April 16, 2013.

The “Non-Plunger Latch” technology is about the tray unlock technology of the slim type optical disc device. In the traditional design, an electromagnetic plunger is used to active the tray unlock process. This “Non-Plunger Latch” technology changes the traditional design of using an electromagnetic plunger by controlling the movement of the optical pickup head to active the tray unlock process. This “Non-Plunger Latch” technology can make optical disc device lighter and thinner.

Lite-ON IT has overall implemented this “Non-Plunger Latch” technology on internal and external slim type optical disc device that Lite-ON IT manufactures, including Lite-ON IT’s external slim type DVD drive eUAU108 and eBAU108.
